There, this man found some people. Let us read what is recorded in the Qur'an (chapter "the Cave", verse 86): Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness (Sura Al-Kahf 018.086). Again in another verse of the same sura it is said - Till, when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had appointed no shelter therefrom (Sura Al-Kahf 018.090). That there's an ocean surrounding the earth. etc. etc., ad infinitum. I think it's inherently fallacious to attempt to prove or disprove a spiritual truth on how it measures up to the physical universe. Other skeptics like to do that, and while I might agree with them on the chances that there's a God out there someplace, I think they make a fundamental mistake in such comparisons. Qur'an, like the Jewish and Christian scriptures, is great literature and part of the foundation of modern, western society; but it isn't a physics or geography textbook. There's no evidence it was ever meant to be. The most famous of the Bible verses supporting a round or spherical earth is Isaiah 40:22 where it says of God that: It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in... Isaiah 40:22 is not the only verse in the Bible which speaks of the circle as descriptive of the shape of the earth. Proverbs 8:27 reads: When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth... Acts 1:8, Jesus gives His commission to His disciples to be witnesses "unto the uttermost part of the earth." Notice "uttermost part" is singular. If the Earth is flat, then it would be "uttermost parts." I have the Rodwell translation, and I have enjoyed exploring it. I have a related question for you. As a Muslim, what would your reaction be if some piece of scientific evidence directly contradicted one of the supplemental messages of Qur'an. Would you allow it to shake your faith, would you consciously choose one or the other, or would you reconcile the two? But verily, many among mankind are neglectful of Our Signs" (Quran 10:92) YOU IN YOUR BODY is the arabic translation of : bi-badani-ka a word by word translation means : bi = in badani = body ka = your The problem is that BADANI can mean BODY as well as old deer and SHIELD The correct translation should be : This day shall We project you with your shield on a bulge in order that you may be a sign to those who come after you Pharaho was drowned as like all his army, with horses and shields As the term : "farasi wa badani" means "my horse and my shield" It is interesting to read a Quran preface : Occasionaly, an Arabic word can express not only several related meanings but one of two opposite meanings.... Also have got an Exocet and now the correct gas ram for it - but easiest shop for me to reach (in Reading my brother works near there) refuses to fit gas rams - anyone else know a decent gunsmith / gun shop who will do it for a reasonable price in Surrey / W.London ?? Posts 3,410 IF its just the top burred,and you can get it out ok just cut/file a slot across the top so an ordinary screwdriver can be used, makes life a lot easier.. ALSO really good tip to stop pellets catching in the hole where the screw goes, as they do when loading, is to drop some melted candle wax in it,and level/shape it down when hard, makes the pellets load VERY smoothly.
